Our History

When the Sisters of Mercy first landed on the shores of Western Australia, the care of children unable to live with their parents was one of their primary missions.

The Sisters established an Orphanage, and over time this changed to Residential group care in 1978 in purpose built homes on the Catherine McAuley site in Wembley.  This then changed again to community based residential homes that were scattered across the northern suburbs. They provided medium to long-term care for school aged children unable to live with their own families.

Foster Care

In 1990, MercyCare started its foster care program. Now, our wonderful volunteer Foster Carers provide medium to long-term care for children aged 0-17 years. They include families willing to provide regular respite/holiday care for children in the long-term foster care program.
