Mercy Community Support

How do we help?

Here at the Community Support Service, we work with the four key principles of engagement, inclusiveness, collaboration and capacity building to build stronger community networks. We do this through a range of activities that will also enable you to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to manage your own life, including:

  • Coordination of community resources
  • Skills development through group education and practical skills courses
  • Trust and relationship building activities
  • Encouragement in developing your own personal networks
  • Assistance for you and your community to identify strengths and resources
  • Group activities to develop positive coping skills.

But that’s not all we do. We also offer help with advocacy and other personal services such as:

  • Practical assistance
  • Writing letters to service providers and other places such as Homeswest, Centrelink, real estate agencies, electric and gas companies etc.
  • Reading letters and any other documents that you may have difficulty understanding
  • Help with financial issues such as information on how to pay your bills and assist with Centrelink/Centrepay details
  • Links to other services within MercyCare or other agencies such as multicultural centres and financial assistance service providers
  • Referral to emergency relief and food services
  • Help with housing issues
  • Referral to counselling services, meditation groups and other personal development services.

We even have our own bus that can be used for community activities and events!
