Mercy Hospital Mount Lawley is an acute secondary level not-for-profit private Hospital located five kilometres from the Central Business District of Perth.

The hospital is licensed to accommodate 244 patients, and includes eight operating rooms, six birthing suites, a state-of- the art endoscopy suite, a day surgery unit, a special nursing unit, a level 2 nursery, specialist rehabilitation service and public restorative unit and older adult mental health.

The Hospital provides a wide range of elective surgical and medical services including general surgery and day surgery, bariatric surgery, orthopaedics, urology, ear, nose and throat, plastic and reconstructive surgery, maxillofacial, gynaecology and oral surgery.

The Hospital has a long tradition of obstetric services which continues with the modern facilities of the Mercy Family Birthing Unit.

The general wards are beautifully appointed and patients recover in a home-like atmosphere of single or shared rooms. The majority of patient accommodation has extensive views of Perth and the Swan River.

Mercy Family Birthing Unit

Family Birthing UnitThe Mercy Family Birthing Unit offers a combination of intimate, home-style accommodation, personalised attention and modern clinical facilities.

Services include:

  • All private rooms are appointed with a double bed enabling partners to stay
  • Level 2 Special Care Nursery
  • Modern Birthing Suites
  • Lactation Consultancy Service.
  • Ante-natal Services
  • Childbirth Education and Parenting Classes

Special Nursing Unit

A 4-bed Special Nursing Unit is located on the third floor of the hospital. It is a very functional facility for patients who require close observation. Patient types usually admitted to the unit include:

  • Total Knee, Hip or Shoulder Replacements
  • Iliazarov Frames
  • Major Bowel Surgery
  • Radical Prostatectomies
  • Complex Gastric Surgery and
  • Nephrectomies

Surgical facilities

Surgical FacilitiesThe Hospital has eight fully equipped operating rooms with the latest instrumentation and technology for numerous specialised surgical procedures.

These include general surgical procedures, orthopaedics and advanced arthroscopic work, gynaecological and obstetric, paediatric, ear, nose and throat, urologic, bariatrics, maxillofacial, cosmetic/plastic and reconstructive and oral.

Highly experienced staff service all areas in the operating complex, and are available on call for 24-hour coverage.

Mercy Restorative Unit

Located in the hospital campus, the Mercy Restorative Unit consists of a 24 bed in-patient unit and an outpatient Day Therapy Unit.

The Patient unit specialises in the provision of assessment and rehabilitation of older persons by a multidisciplinary health care team. The aim is for each person to regain their maximum functional level in order to return to living in the community.

Patients are admitted after assessment by a member of the Inner City Geriatric Service which is attached to Royal Perth Hospital.

The Day Therapy Unit offers a range of out-patient services provided by doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. It also provides clinics for falls, continence and memory. These services are available through either the Royal Perth Hospital Consultant Geriatricians or a general Practitioner referral to the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) who work at the Mercy Restorative Unit site.

Ursula Frayne Unit

The Ursula Frayne Unit follows the leadership of the first Sisters of Mercy who arrived in Perth in 1846. Its mission was to provide services to those with mental health needs. 

The unique acute 12 bed authorised assessment unit overlooks the banks of the Swan River and provides services to those who live in the inner - Perth Metro area.

The Ursula Frayne Unit is recognised for its commitment and dedication in providing the best possible care for people with mental illness. Referrals are accepted via GP and Royal Perth Hospital to the Inner City Older Adult Mental Health Service.
