Thank you to all those people who held an "Australia's Biggest Morning Tea" last week. Although we all know the funds raised go to the Cancer Council to aid much needed research and resources, we may not all know just how far they go.
For example, the survival rate for many common cancers increased by approximately 30 per cent over the past two decades and more than half the people who were diagnosed were successfully treated. This goes to show that we aren't fighting for a lost cause.
The donations and funds raised from this years "Australia's Biggest Morning Tea" will aid the Cancer Council in the following ways:
- $5 will provide cancer patients with support packs containing information about treatment options and local services available to them
- $20 can help to train a Cancer Connect volunteer; cancer survivors who support other people who have been diagnosed with cancer
- $50 can help to fund crucial clinical trials, testing better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer
- $100 can go towards the cost of ground-breaking research into the causes of cancer as well as new treatments
Have a cuppa with your friends, family or work colleagues again in 2008 and continue to help the Cancer Council in the battle against cancer!
