Over the last few weeks we have welcomed over 50 corporate volunteers from Deloitte, Bunnings and BankWest to our Wembley site to take part in a range of activities that benefit young people living at Carlow House, our 24-hour youth accommodation service and elderly residents living at our aged care facility.
Volunteers from Deloitte transformed the inside of Carlow House by painting every room in one day. The fresh coat of paint really brightened up the home and contributes to providing a space that’s warm, inviting and nurturing.
While Deloitte staff were busy painting, volunteers from Bunnings were pitching in to install new vegetable gardens and a worm farm in the backyard at Carlow House. Not only does the garden now look fantastic but it will provide our young residents with the opportunity to grow their own organic vegetables and learn all about permaculture.
Following all this activity, we were fortunate enough to have staff from BankWest volunteer their time to bring the Christmas spirit to Carlow House by creating and displaying decorations throughout the home. They also facilitated a petting zoo at the Residential Aged Care facility which was a huge success with our residents. There was a real buzz in the air as residents got to hold and pet rabbits, chickens, goats, lambs and even piglets! The BankWest volunteers did a great job of making sure all our residents got to join in the fun.
It’s just fantastic to have corporate partners who are willing to donate their time and energy to help us achieve our mission of breaking cycles of significant disadvantage.
