Here at Mercy Hospital Mount Lawley, we are embracing technology to showcase our outstanding facilities in the Family Birthing Unit. In a first for WA hospitals, prospective patients can use 360 degree virtual tours of five areas of the unit, providing them with a comprehensive and realistic view of the facilities and services on offer. Check out the tour here.
The five areas of the Family Birthing Unit involved in the virtual tour are the post natal rooms, delivery suite, nursery, foyer / reception area and of course the amazing river views from the patient rooms.
This use of technology builds upon Mercy Hospital being the first hospital in WA to offer the virtual baby visit – Look@MyBaby in June last year. Look@MyBaby provides new parents with a live and secure video streaming service direct from the maternity cot to mobile phones and computers of friends and family around the world via an SMS message that allows them to connect to the live stream.
Nurse Manager of the Family Birthing Unit Sharon Connolly noted “that the Look@MyBaby technology at the hospital was popular with the patients and their families, and that the virtual tour was another way for patients to ‘touch and feel’ the unit using basic technology”.
