Bedford Early Learning Centre

Childcare near you

Bedford Early Learning Centre is steeped in history as a place of learning. Housed in the old St Peter’s School building and surrounded by spacious grounds, it provides a multitude of opportunities for children to learn and grow through play.

A place to thrive

Our experienced educators create opportunities for children to become successful, competent and capable learners with clear understandings and connections to their sense of self, the community and the world around them.

Being a former school, our centre has plenty of space, inside and out.

Our big, bright rooms provide plenty of multi-purpose areas that can be used for fun activities or relaxing quiet time.

The outdoor spaces have separate areas for different age groups and a huge new nature play space for everyone to enjoy.

Fresh air

As well as lush, grassed areas, we have undercover areas which provide plenty of shelter for children to play outside year-round and our modern play equipment inspires endless creativity and adventure.

Children have the opportunity to contribute to our veggie and herb gardens.

They love seeing the mango, apple, orange and lemon trees in our outdoor area change with the seasons.

Not only do we teach about where food comes from, but children learn about how to care for things and how things grow and develop.

Joining in

Our centre pets, Crispy and Crunchy the spiny leaf insects and Angel the axolotl (Mexican walking fish) provide children with engaging experiences and instil a sense of curiosity.

We have a fitness program that involves learning skills to self-regulate emotions while learning about fitness and healthy eating.

Through our partnership with a local aged care centre, children take part in intergenerational experiences.

Creating this opportunity means children are exposed to the traditions and wisdoms of previous generations while developing respect and empathy for older members of the community.

Ages and stages

Little ones enjoy creating connections within their individual baby, toddler, pre-kindy and kindy rooms but there are also interactions between older and younger children, which are key to fostering confidence and friendships between ages.

Siblings are encouraged to visit each other throughout the day in the centre, and our ‘helping hands’ program in before and after school care encourages older children to assist younger ones.

Getting involved

One of our regular activities is MiniChef Mondays where children of all ages work together to follow a different recipe each week, using ingredients from our very own veggie garden to create tasty food.

As an optional extra, Happy Feet, which is an interactive dance and movement program, is offered to children.

We have an adventurous teddy bear who spends time with different families to learn how each family spends their weekends. Recapping journal entries from visits encourages children to learn about different cultures and lifestyles in a comfortable, fun way.

Learning journey

Our School Readiness Program for children aged 3+ provides an educational, fun way to get your child ready for school.

The program’s holistic approach is designed and delivered by our Early Childhood Teacher and gives children the opportunity to build their confidence and independence to take the next step in their learning journey.

Offered two days a week, your child will be gently introduced to what a typical day at school will be like, including daily routines, transitions between subjects and collaborating and working in groups.

Stay connected

Parents at our centre love the peace of mind that comes with the app we use to communicate with them throughout the day. Xplor provides real time updates with photos about what your child is enjoying and discovering with their friends and educators.

We offer flexible care arrangements, including half days and the option for a 10-hour session which means you can make the most out of your childcare subsidy across the week.

We provide before and after school care and a vacation care program.

Our centre is housed in the old St Peter’s School building on Salisbury Street, not far from Beaufort Street and just off Grand Promenade.

My passion for working with children stems from a desire to see all young people given the opportunity to thrive and be the best they can be in a safe and nurturing environment.

I’ve been working in early education since 2001, joining the MercyCare team in 2011.

I love that our centre provides so many opportunities for children to play.

I enjoy forming great bonds with children in our care and building a strong rapport with the families.

I hold a Diploma in Early Education and Care with a Certificate III in Educational Support.
