MercyCare Thornlie Early Learning Centre Temporarily Closed

MercyCare can confirm the temporary closure of our Thornlie Early Learning Centre due to it being listed as a COVID exposure site.

Our absolute priority is the health and wellbeing of the children in our care, the wellbeing of their families and our staff. At this stage no staff or children have tested positive to COVID-19.

We are working closely with the WA Department of Health. Whilst awaiting advice, MercyCare have made the decision to close the service for the rest of today and tomorrow.

This will allow

  • The Centre to undergo more than one deep clean
  • All staff to be tested for COVID-19 regardless if they were at the Centre during the exposure times or not
  • Allow more time for contact tracing for the periods the positive COVID-19 person was at our Centre

MercyCare are taking these steps to ensure we reduce the risk of further transmission, as the health and safety our children, staff and community is our top priority. We want to be confident that when we do reopen, we have taken all possible measures to keep everyone safe.

While at this stage this is a precautionary step, we acknowledge the closure of our early learning centres will be extremely hard on families, children and staff.

We care deeply about protecting the community from the coronavirus pandemic and have implemented our COVID response plans to protect families and staff. We continue to follow the Health advice and provide support to children in our care, their families and our staff during this time.

MercyCare’s remaining early learning centres have not been impacted and will remain open. MercyCare will continue to implement Health Department protocols and State and Federal Government mandates.
