What is Respite Foster Care?
In a time where life is exceptionally busy; individuals, couples or families may feel that fostering will be too demanding, resulting in a reluctance to become involved. This is where respite care may be right for you. Respite carers look after foster children for short periods of time to give their full time carers time to recharge and as a part of a support package to fulltime carers, or sometimes in response to an emergency situation such as carer illness.
Respite care is usually planned and regular care for children in your own home on weekends or on school holidays so that respite carers and children form a relationship. This is an important role whereby children have positive relationships with individuals or families outside their home. Respite Care also provides a unique experience of ‘trialing’ foster care before committing to long term care in the future.
