Bedford Early Learning Centre
MercyCare’s Bedford Early Learning Centre is housed in the old St Peter’s School building on Salisbury Street. Our child care centre provides programs for 120 children aged between six weeks and six years (12 years in the Long Day Care and Vacation Care Programs). Children can attend half-days or full-days offering flexibility for parents. We are hoping to grow both our long day care and vocational care places in 2016.
Children are with similar aged peers and have the chance to move through our animal-named rooms (‘Pandas’ (6 weeks to 1 year), ‘Koalas’ or ‘Bunnies’ (1-2 years), ‘Starfish’ or ‘Little Bears’ (2-3years)) with their friends.
The St Peter’s School site offers a welcoming building and outstanding grounds for the Bedford child care centre. Big, bright rooms offer children plenty of space and a range of multi-purpose areas. There are reading corners, relaxing spaces and many spaces to play. Outside there are grassy areas, covered sand boxes, a huge undercover climbing frame and slide next to the veggie garden.
MercyCare Early Learning Centres offer a program of education guided by the Early Years Learning Framework. Children experience play-based learning to develop their communication, language, social and emotional skills. The framework at MercyCare's Early Learning Centres focuses on children belonging, being and becoming.
Bedford centre runs a Kindy program with a qualified teacher where children learn school readiness skills to ease the transition from early learning.
The popular Happy Feet Fitness program is an option many families choose. Happy Feet Fitness entertains, inspires and encourages children to make positive healthy choices for themselves, the world around them, and in their relationships with others.
The centre also offers an integration program with the co-located Autism Association of WA.
Children over two years engage in supervised integrated play, offering an opportunity to experience play with others with diverse needs.
The Bedford child care centre hosts a thriving community with many families and staff from the local area, including one staff member who attended St Peter’s School and has lived in the area over 30 years themselves. Many families and staff wanting to maintain their connection with the Bedford ELC tend to continue to travel to the centre long after moving from the local area.
