Heathridge Early Learning Centre
(formerly known as the James McAuley Centre)
You’ll find MercyCare’s Heathridge Early Learning Centre, formerly known as the James McAuley Centre, in the leafy northern suburb, opposite Prince Regent Park.
Our centre provides programs for 38 children aged between six weeks and six years, in the baby, toddler or Kindy rooms. Children can attend half-days or full-days offering flexibility for parents. The child care centre partners with neighbouring Poseidon Primary School, liaising with teachers for school readiness and excursions. Many local children come to the centre and then move up to this local school together, creating a strong sense of community. The Heathridge Early Learning Centre also has strong links with the local community. It’s conveniently located less than five minutes from the Mitchell Freeway.
The centre is surrounded by grass and beautiful outside spaces. Each room has its own outdoor area, allowing the children to access the natural environment and play areas, including covered spaces, riding tracks, sand boxes and the veggie garden.
MercyCare Early Learning Centres offer a program of education guided by the Early Years Learning Framework. Children experience play-based learning to develop their communication, language, social and emotional skills. The framework at MercyCare's Early Learning Centres focuses on children belonging, being and becoming.
Heathridge centre runs a Kindy program with a qualified teacher where children learn school readiness skills to ease the transition from early learning.
The Jumping Jitterbugs program is an option many families choose. The program offers an introduction to sports and dance for children aged 18 month to four years.
Heathridge chilc care centre has a tight knit group of educators, some who have worked together for many years. A number of staff are parents themselves with their children enrolled at the centre or neighbouring Poseidon Primary. One educator’s connection with the centre started as a parent, before completing her formal training and a placement at the centre. She now works with us, one of many staff who enjoy working at the small centre and building strong connections with families and the community. The centre exceeded national standards at its most recent accreditation (one of 84 WA centres ‘exceeding’ standards set by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority). The review commented on the centre’s fun outdoor area, care of children and environmental consciousness.
What parents say
“The staff are magic and I love the small centre, they all know us. RJ has made friends here and we see them regularly. I like the stability of the staff and you can tell they love their job. RJ was so excited when Bunnings came to do the veggie garden, he ran to show me the scarecrow they made. He also loves the birthday celebrations. It’s a home away from home.” (Trudi and son RJ)
“You have been caring, tolerant, supportive, encouraging and gone above and beyond for our family. We feel blessed to have such caring, warm and professional place to entrust our most precious children with. We are so lucky to be part of your community.” (Mark and Toni)
“We are so grateful to have found you to care for our boys.” (Rachel and Paul)
