Thornlie Early Learning Centre

MercyCare’s Thornlie Early Learning Centre is conveniently located near Roe Highway and Spencer Road. This medium-sized child care centre provides programs for 62 children aged between six weeks and six years, in the baby, toddler or Kindy rooms. Children can attend half-days or full-days offering flexibility for parents. The centre celebrates diversity with children and educators from a range of cultural backgrounds and modern families. Our Thornlie child care centre actively engages with the local community, participating in fundraising and awareness activities with many children moving on together to local Yale Primary School.

Play areas

Children can enjoy a huge outdoor area with shaded spaces for a range of activities, including the veggie garden, wooden play structure two sand play areas and plenty of room for ball games, bikes, tricycles and scooters. The centre’s rain water tank is also a great way for children to learn about saving water and the environment. Inside, the three rooms are large and bright with natural light, giving children space and for different activities. The home grown veggies regularly come inside too for taste testing or cooking in meals on the four-week menu (which also caters for diverse food needs).

MercyCare Early Learning Centres offer a program of education guided by the Early Years Learning Framework. Children experience play-based learning to develop their communication, language, social and emotional skills. The framework at MercyCare's Early Learning Centres focuses on children belonging, being and becoming.

The Thornlie child care centre runs a Kindy program with a qualified teacher where children learn school readiness skills to ease the transition from early learning.

The popular Happy Feet Fitness program is an option many families choose. Happy Feet Fitness entertains, inspires and encourages children to make positive healthy choices for themselves, the world around them, and in their relationships with others.

Educators at our Thornlie centre share a strong bond. A number of staff have worked together many years, moving from a local centre to MercyCare when it opened in 2009. The team work very well together and enjoy the positive environment at Thornlie centre and working at MercyCare. The majority of educators are qualified (Certificate III or Diploma) with plenty of experience in working in early years’ education, with some being parents themselves.
