Wembley Early Learning Centre
(formerly known as the Catherine McAuley Centre)
MercyCare’s Wembley Early Learning Centre is steeped in history. Formerly known as the Catherine McAuley Centre, you will find our child care centre on Barrett Street, Wembley in beautiful surroundings less than 10 minutes from central Perth.
This large, established centre provides programs for 138 children aged between six weeks and six years in our many rooms named after ‘Australian animals’ With so many rooms, children can be with a similar age group in a personalised environment. Children can attend half-days or full-days offering flexibility for parents.
Our Wembley centre is beautifully located on historic grounds with many large open spaces, grass, ‘The Plot’ veggie garden, fairy garden, mature trees and maintained flower beds.
MercyCare Early Learning Centres offer a program of education guided by the Early Years Learning Framework. Children experience play-based learning to develop their communication, language, social and emotional skills. The framework at MercyCare's Early Learning Centres focuses on children belonging, being and becoming.
The Wembley early learning centre runs a Kindy program with a qualified teacher, where children learn school readiness skills to ease the transition from early learning.
The popular Happy Feet Fitness program is an option many families choose. Happy Feet Fitness entertains, inspires and encourages children to make positive healthy choices for themselves, the world around them, and in their relationships with others.
There are also opportunities for children to learn a language with programs available in French and Mandarin.
Staff at our MercyCare Wembley Early Learning Centre love their work. We have educators who have been with us for 10 years, some more than 20 years. Parents comment on how refreshing it is to have their children looked after by the same people and becoming part of their family journey. Our educators are diverse too, hailing from Europe, Asia and Africa and speaking many different languages. The staff also say they are looked after by MercyCare and enjoy working for an organisation with children and families’ interests at heart.
The centre exceeded national standards at its most recent accreditation (one of 84 WA centres ‘exceeding’ standards set by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority). The review commented on the centre’s fun outdoor area, care of children and environmental consciousness.
What parents say
“The grounds are immaculate and the carers are just beautiful, I am certain my girls learnt all of their manners and gentle nature at Mercy Care. I feel so lucky that I found the centre and could go back to work without a single worry. There is no other centre in Perth like Mercy Care!” (Francesca)
"One thing I loved is that when Harper arrived he was always so warmly welcomed. He often didn't want to go to care but being so warm when he got there definitely helped." (Holly)
“I have loved every minute of my experience with MercyCare, from the first phone call to the wonderful and loving care we received. It has given me so much happiness and relief to know I was leaving my sweet boy with three women who loved him and cared for him more than I could have hoped, who have taken the time to understand Anderson and his personality, to finding ways of making him feel secure, happy and confident. You have been everything I had hoped for in a day care. I have recommended MercyCare to everyone and will continue to do so.” (Ashley)
“Daniel is in Quokkas and moved up from Bilbys with his friends. I was against day care at first but he just loves it. His favourites are the veggie patch (where he likes to pick a cherry tomato on his way in), the fairy garden and the Happy Feet program. I like the set age groups, the children are close in age and move up together. The routine is preparing him well for Kindy.” (Alinta and son Daniel)
“We lived locally but moved away, but I love the centre so much we kept the girls coming one day a week and travel 45 minutes to bring them here. Imogen has special needs and I can’t just leave her anywhere. I feel so comfortable with her here and know they will call me if there are any problems. It’s a great transition for school too. I can’t say enough good things about the staff and the centre. They are both obsessed with the Happy Feet program too. The care is holistic and personalised. I love the grounds and the veggie garden, it’s a wonderful environment for them. I also feel very engaged as a parent, as you’re made to feel part of the community.” (Jessica and daughters Amelia and Imogen)
Kanako’s son and daughter attend the centre. They are Japanese and feel welcome, enjoy the outside area and like the Kindy teacher. They live close and enjoy walking to and from day care.
After dropping his children at the centre, a Dad said, “They are very personable. It doesn’t feel like a business.” (Kanako)
