Ways of Partnering
There are so many different ways to make a tangible difference to individual lives and community issues by partnering with MercyCare. Exactly what that looks like will depend on your resources, priorities and time. See some suggested methods below, and talk to us about what is top of your agenda and what is possible.
Supporting Service Innovation
Innovation is vital to keeping MercyCare’s 40 different services relevant to those who use them. Your support means introducing the innovation sooner and making a bigger difference to those with urgent needs. See what others are supporting:
Aspire and Duke of Edinburgh Scholarships
Aspire Performance Training, also a MercyCare Oration sponsor, were interested in supporting young people and were linked with Carlow House which provides 24 hour supported long term accommodation for 16 – 18 year old either homeless or at risk. More than just housing, Carlow House prepares them to live independently by working on their challenges in a safe, supportive environment. Keen to assist in nurturing potential, Aspire sponsored two residents to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the world’s leading achievement award for young people. In August 2016 an Aspire staff member accompanied these residents and others on a camping trip to the Gascoyne as part of the adventure component of their award.
Perrott Painting and Alternatives to Suicide Training
On average, 8 Australians will die from suicide today and every day in 2018.Perrott Painting has a long track record of supporting suicide prevention in WA and were interested to hear about MercyCare’s lead role in a coalition of WA policy makers, organisations and individuals with lived experience who are bringing the innovative Alternative to Suicides approach from America. The sponsorship provided by Perrott painting is co-funding a Youth forum, enabling 12 young West Australians to undertake training as peer facilitators.
Aspire and Welcome and Exit Packs
Many of the young residents of Carlow House arrive with almost no personal belongings. Now, thanks to Aspire Performance Training, they receive an all-purpose bag/ welcome pack containing items of their own including a towel and bath set, toiletries, journal and food voucher. Before they leave they also receive an Exit pack with items to assist in their new accommodation. This small gesture has been profoundly welcomed by residents.
Catholic Super and Living Our Values Awards
Catholic Super is the sole sponsor of MercyCare’s annual Living Our Values Awards. The 6 awards are peer judged and recognise individuals and teams within MercyCare who go above and beyond in their work by demonstrating the values that guide the organisation: Respect; Justice; Compassion; Integrity; Excellence and Courage. The awards are presented by Catholic Super at a celebration where winners receive a cash prize for professional development.
MercyCare’s signature event is its annual Oration, held in late September. The event takes place in front of an audience of 600 at the Hyatt Regency Perth and showcases a world class speaker whose personal story inspires, enlightens and profoundly affects those who attend. Orators are chosen for the way in which their story reflects the values that MercyCare strives to put in practice, and particular aspects of our work. Past speakers have included: Saroo Brierley (author and subject of the Hollywood film Lion); Munjed Al Muderis (Pioneering surgeon, former refugee and Red Cross ambassador); Li Cunxin (ballet dancer and author of Mao’s Last Dancer); Gill Hicks (survivor of the 2005 London bombings and peace activist) and Jang Chung (author of Wild Swans).
The Oration is generously supported by a select number of corporate partners who recognise MercyCare’s important work and the need to raise awareness. All of them are long term sponsors who regard the night as a highlight of their year to which they bring their valued clients.

Datacom Charity Golf Day
In committing to support MercyCare’s First Time Ever Fund for children in Out of Home Care, Datacom decided to merge business with pleasure in organising an annual charity golf day. Held at the newly refurbished Wembley Golf Course, players engaged in fierce but fun competition with the trophy going to OnCall DBA. Event sponsors included HPE Aruba, Cisco, Procura, Schneider Electric, Riteq, Telstraand Forest Grove. The event concluded with dinner, and comedy with award winning comedian and actor Peter Rowsthorn, plus hearing from a young woman who told her story of having been a foster child who found a loving family through MercyCare’s foster.
Hyatt Regency Melbourne Cup Lunch
The race that stops the nation had a whole new meaning for MercyCare in 2017 when the Hyatt Regency Perth invited us to be the chosen charity for their annual and much loved Melbourne Cup lunch. In front of the 300 strong crowd MercyCare talked about the critical work we do with young people facing homelessness, poverty and disconnection, showed a video of a former resident of Carlow House and launched our new Youth fund designed to bolster this work. Proceeds from the live auction, silent auction, raffle and part of the sweepstakes launched the fund. Join us for the 2018 lunch this November.

Promote MercyCare as an option for individual staff volunteering or talk to us about corporate volunteering when you become a MercyCare partner.
As proud supporters of the First Time Ever fund, Datacom have volunteered for the last 3 years at one of the most fun events on the MercyCare calendar – the annual Christmas party for children in Out of Home Care – where they have been in charge of barbecues and waterfights, and may have a bit too much fun! Here’s what they say about the day:
“We love volunteering at the Christmas party because you get to see the joy on the kids’ faces and on the families who are able to sit back and relax in a casual and fun setting. It’s why we’ll be back for many more years to come”.
