Award win a ‘proud moment’ for Julie

As MercyCare’s Senior Work, Health and Safety Consultant, this year Julie has dedicated her time to working alongside teams across the organisation to establish Work, Health and Safety Committees, while also continuing to drive home the importance of the organisation’s Work, Health and Safety practices.

The Health Safety and Wellbeing Award recognises a person who champions workplace health, safety and wellbeing by going above and beyond and taking action to support a culture of health, safety and inclusion.

Nominated by her peers, Julie was commended for her “positive energy” and for consistently ‘going the extra mile to accommodate the needs of her colleagues”.

“Introducing Work Health and Safety Committees across MercyCare including the nomination, election, and training of 35 Health and Safety Representatives has been a wonderful experience,” said Julie, pictured above accepting her award from MercyCare Chief Financial Officer Daniel Heggie.

“Working with our newly elected representatives and seeing them grow in confidence has been empowering and humbling – and has definitely my most gratifying experience this year.”

For Julie, hearing her name called on stage at the awards gala conjured a mix of emotions.

“I felt surprised and shocked, but I was also overcome by happiness,” Julie said.

“I felt humbled and honoured to receive this Award.  I think appreciation and recognition of dedication and hard work is powerful as it helps people see that MercyCare values us and our contributions whilst celebrating our successes together.”

While Julie is passionate about what her work,  collaborating with other teams is what she loves most about her role.

“I enjoy working alongside amazing people each and every day and being part of a great team who are working towards making a difference in people’s lives,” she said.

“The most enriching part of my role is being with our people in their working environment and getting to know what they do, why they do what they do and how they do it – whilst forming relationships and being a part of their teams to achieve safety outcomes together.”
