Cooking is the ultimate giving

Service users from Carlow House, UHM (Unaccompanied Human Minors Program) client operations and MercyCare staff joined forces to prepare delicious food for those in need.

The team volunteered their time and cooking skills to feed the people accessing Sudbury House on Friday the 13th of January. Part of the local community for 37 years, Sudbury House provides a range of services and facilities to support Mirrabooka and the surrounding suburbs.

Working with the welcoming Sudbury House staff, the young people and MercyCare staff prepared two main meals and two desserts. The experience gave the young people an opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and give back to the local community.

After the meals were cooked and served, the group sat and enjoyed the food while participating with the friendship group run by the house.

Thank you to Sudbury house for being so welcoming on the day, the young people enjoyed their experience and have expressed an interest in further volunteering opportunities which reflects the positive and welcoming attitude that has been created.
