Last week we were excited to welcome Hon Dr Anne Aly MP to MercyCare’s Warriapendi Child and Parent Centre in Balga.
Warriapendi Child and Parent Centre is co-located with Warriapendi Primary School and provides a range of easily accessible, free programs and services for parents to support them in giving their children the best start to life.
During last week’s visit, Dr Aly met with the coordinators of one of the centre’s most popular programs – Wadjak BubsFAST.
BubsFAST is a program that aims to empower Aboriginal parents and carers to build positive relationships with their children, as well as connections with other families, schools and culture, to create a strong, supportive community.
Aboriginal families with children aged from birth to four years can attend the program each Thursday from 10am. BubsFAST families are provided with support and information to help them build their capacity as caregivers and build strong bonds with their kids.
Dr Aly spent time touring the centre and speaking in depth to representatives from Wadjak, MercyCare and Warriapendi Primary School, to get a greater understanding of the work being done and what she as an MP can do to support this and other CPC initiatives.
MercyCare’s Warriapendi Child and Parent Centre is one of 22 CPCs in Western Australia. Centre coordinators work with families, local schools and the community to ensure the programs, services and supports needed most in the area are easy to access and use.
