Leading the Way in Dementia Care and Change

We’re elated to share that Lyndsey McKenzie, the Coordinator of Davis House in Wembley, has been announced as the 2023 Dementia Change Champion of the Year.

Her outstanding contribution was recognised and celebrated at the Alzheimer’s WA Dementia Symposium. Lyndsey is not just a team member; she’s a trailblazer in dementia care, and her achievements highlight her dedication.

Lyndsey transformed the Davis House environment by spearheading a complete overhaul, integrating dementia-friendly design principles.

The result is a serene and homely setting that offers solace and warmth to our clients.

Intergenerational Fridays

In a heartfelt move towards fostering intergenerational connections, Lyndsey initiated a collaboration with Trinity College. Dubbed “Intergenerational Fridays,” Year 10 students now offer their service hours at Davis House, creating a bridge between generations and enhancing the lives of our clients.

In the realm of technology, Lyndsey showcased her commitment to innovative solutions. She introduced the OmniVista sensory projector to Davis House, a tool that amplifies engagement for non-verbal clients.

Taking a step further, she collaborated with families to develop interactive games, each rooted in real-life stories, creating a personalised touch.

Education for exceptional care

Education and continuous learning are cornerstones of exceptional care.

Under Lyndsey’s guidance, several members of the Davis House team undertook the University of Tasmania’s Understanding Dementia training course, further sharpening their skills and understanding.

“Lyndsey’s contribution to our team and, most importantly, to our clients living with dementia and their families, is invaluable. Her recognition as the 2023 Dementia Change Champion is well-deserved and speaks volumes about her unwavering commitment to creating positive change for people with dementia,” says Lauren Meredith, General Manager for Home Care.

We deeply thank you, Lyndsey, for your hard work and dedication.
