MercyCare community digs deep for families in need

Staff and families from our Early Learning Centres, Residential Aged Care homes and offices have opened their hearts and donated hundreds of gifts that will be delivered to families supported by MercyCare’s Youth and Homelessness team, many of whom can’t afford to buy presents for their loved ones at Christmas.

“People have been so generous – it’s amazing to see all these gifts coming from across MercyCare,” said MercyCare Senior Case Worker Katrina Boyd, who has been involved in collecting and sorting donations to the appeal.

“Some of these families have five to six kids, so they can’t afford to buy presents. It takes a huge financial burden off those families so they can enjoy the festivities on Christmas day.”

MercyCare’s Youth and Homelessness case and support workers will be working hard until Christmas to select gifts to deliver to their clients.

“We’ve been working with families for so long so we know what the kids like and we’re able to personalise what gifts they get,” MercyCare Housing Support Worker Christelle Tonev said.

The generosity has meant numerous tables of gifts for babies and toddlers; primary school children; teenagers and even adults.

Hundreds of toys. clothing and necessities were generously donated to MercyCare’s Kris Kringle appeal.

Any gifts not taken by Christmas will be donated to other MercyCare clients and charities throughout Perth to ensure they bring Christmas cheer to those in need.

MercyCare Executive Director of Mission and Ethos Vicky Gonzalez-Burrows said it was heart-warming to see the generosity of the MercyCare community shine through.

“It’s beautiful to see the MercyCare family come together in kindness to donate to those in need,” she said.

Thank you to all those who donated – your kindness will bring a smile to many faces on Christmas day!
