MercyCare Early Learning stalwart surpasses a quarter century

Christine Cohen has been keeping MercyCare Early Learning Centres running smoothly since the 1990s as an Administration Officer.

Starting out at our original child care centre in Wembley in 1994, Christine has since also been part of the Heathridge centre and is now based at Bedford.

She joined MercyCare for a change of pace after working in accounting in her own business.

“I wanted a gentle environment and that’s really what Wembley was for me,” she said.

MercyCare was formed out of Wembley, where our original retirement village, residential aged care home, and early learning centre are all located.

Her roles in part time administration have provided support to the centre management, allowing educators to focus on the children while she keeps operations ticking along.

Christine’s roles at the different centres reflect the growth in our early learning services.

She moved to Heathridge after Wembley, which was MercyCare’s first child care centre outside of Wembley.

She now works at our Bedford centre, where she enjoys being part of a close-knit team connected to a much wider community of 14 early learning centres as well as many other community services delivered across WA.

While Christine is based in the front office at the Bedford centre, she still gets to interact with the children and get to know the families who are part of the MercyCare Bedford community.

“I like the business side of things, but I get to be surrounded by children,” Christine said.
