MercyCare’s Early Learning Services to expand to Piara Waters

Situated on the corner of Wright Road and Tuberose Road, the purpose-built centre will accommodate 97 children.

MercyCare CEO Anthony Smith and Executive Director of Early Learning Services Rosina Smith visited the site on Friday for a sod-turning ceremony to officially mark the start of construction which is set to commence in the coming weeks.

“This is an exciting opportunity for MercyCare to be part of the Piara Waters community,” MercyCare CEO Anthony Smith said.

“We look forward to connecting with local families and supporting their children as they learn and grow.”

Much like MercyCare’s modern, custom-built Banksia Grove Early Learning Centre - which was opened in 2019 – the Piara Waters centre will carry a contemporary aesthetic with a homely feel and has been designed to blend with the surrounding community.

Nature playgrounds are also set to be a feature in the centre’s outdoor spaces, drawing from MercyCare’s early learning philosophy of play-based learning.

Rosina said it was rewarding to see the $1.5million project come to fruition after months of talks and planning.

“I’m thrilled to be able to see this project come to life,” she said.

“It’s exciting to think that in a year’s time we will be providing high-quality care for children in the Piara Waters community, which is such a thriving, family-centric suburb.”

Piara Waters is located about 27km south of the CBD and was recently reported as the third fastest growing suburb in Perth according to the 2021 Census.

Also present at the sod-turning ceremony was MercyCare Aboriginal Pathway Coordinator Mark Parfitt, who gave an Acknowledgment of Country, with Executive Director of Mission and Ethos Vicky Gonzalez-Burrows blessing the site.

Construction of the centre is set to be completed by August 2023, with the centre expected to open in September 2023.
