MercyCare’s new CEO announced

MercyCare is pleased to announce the appointment of experienced senior executive Anthony Smith as the organisation’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Anthony has more than 25 years’ experience delivering business success and societal impact in roles with several community services and member-based organisations, across a variety of sectors.

He joins MercyCare from St John Ambulance, where he was Deputy Chief Executive Officer for the past six years.

“It is with great excitement that I embrace this new opportunity with MercyCare and look forward to helping lead the organisation into a period of growth in aged care and child care,” Anthony said.

“It has been a pleasure getting to know the organisation better throughout the recruitment process and I look forward to working with the Trustees, Board and Executive team to build on their recent successes and continuing to deliver quality care for the community.”

In the past 18 months MercyCare has taken significant steps forward in a strategic growth plan designed to transition the organisation into the future.

Board Chair Mary Woodford said, “Anthony’s perspective aligns with MercyCare’s mission and values and this, together with his skillset and resilience, make him uniquely qualified to lead MercyCare into the future.”

She acknowledged the leadership of Interim CEO, David Holden, during the recruitment process and thanked him for his dedication, professionalism and support to the Board and the Executive during this period.

David has been Interim Chief Executive Officer since June 2018.

Anthony will commence in the role of MercyCare Chief Executive Officer on December 3.
