Narelle finds purpose in volunteering at MercyCare Early Learning Centre

“The kids get very excited when I get to work and they always run up to me,” Narelle said.

Narelle heard about volunteering opportunities at MercyCare through a good friend, who works at one of MercyCare’s Residential Aged Care homes.

She began volunteering at MercyCare Bassendean Early Learning Centre, in July 2021 and now attends once a week.

“It’s close to my home and I love being around children, they make me happy,” Narelle said.

“When I’m there, we read stories together and I interact with them doing various activities.”

Narelle, who lives with cerebral palsy, added MercyCare was the first organisation she approached who saw her abilities and what she could offer the children.

Volunteering not only brings Narelle joy but makes her feel like she is contributing to her local community.

“Volunteers help to keep essential funds in non-for-profit organisations to go to essential services for people who really need it,” she said.
