Passionate support worker Sarah humbled by award win

As a Senior Support Worker within MercyCare’s Community and Home Support Team, Sarah supports seniors to continue living independently both at home and in the community.

Her passion for the role hasn’t gone unnoticed and was made clear to Sarah when she was nominated for the Customer Care Excellence Award, which recognises a person who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate excellent customer care.

While she was humbled by the nomination, she never fathomed she would win.

“It is a great feeling to know that my fellow colleagues recognise my work in the community,” she said.

“To hear my name called out and the reaction and excitement from my fellow team members is something I will treasure forever. I was truly humbled and proud at the same time.”

To her colleagues, Sarah is described as a “gentle and compassionate” person who harbours a genuine love of helping others.

Building trusting relationships with consumers is a pivotal part of Sarah’s role, but it’s also something that comes naturally for her.

“Gaining their trust, building friendships and seeing their wellbeing improve is a great feeling,” she said.

“I have a great passion for caring for people and listening to their concerns and improving their outcomes. I feel very privileged to be part of their journey and that they’ve accepted  me to support them and become a part of their lives.”

Since joining MercyCare in 2021 Sarah said she has grown both personally and professionally.

“I have grown as a person by learning so much from my consumers and my peers,” she said.

“I always strive to do my best, and the acknowledgement from those I care and work with always provides me with reassurance that I’m making a difference.”
