Safeguarding training in Broome and Derby

Delivered by MercyCare Safeguarding & Inclusion Officer Bella Ambrose, the three-hour sessions were adapted from mandatory online Australian Childhood Foundation training with additional space for reflection.

The training sessions emphasise MercyCare’s commitment to Safeguarding; core education on child abuse; creating safe organisations; and organisational and individual responsibility to safeguarding children and young people.

The sessions were supported by a local counsellor from Boab Health in Broome and DAHS in Derby. The counsellors helped establish a safe space, watched for any issues, lead a debrief with staff at the end of session, and were available afterwards.

Safeguarding training is required for all MercyCare staff and volunteers.
