As the General Manager of MercyCare’s Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation sites in Derby and Broome, Kuzi has played an important role in managing the two busy sites and ensuring his team are supported.
Joining MercyCare in 2011, it wasn’t until 2014 that he relocated to the Kimberley after stepping into the manager role.
“A pivotal part of my role is working alongside my team to provide culturally-safe and appropriate accommodation for our guests,” Kuzi said.
“They come from across the West Kimberley region and need access to mainstream and culturally appropriate services such as health, employment and education.”
The Group Leadership Award recognises an emerging leader who works collaboratively across MercyCare and embeds the Mission Ethos, cultivates a safe, cohesive and inclusive workplace culture and leads by example, holding themselves and their team accountable.
While Kuzi wasn’t able to attend the Gala to accept the award in person, he was humbled to receive it on behalf of his team.
“This was a group effort with myself and my team, so it is nice for the Kimberley services to have been recognised particularly given the core of MercyCare’s services are in based Perth,” Kuzi said.
“I think it’s important that MercyCare staff are recognised for their dedication and hard work. Not only does it boost staff morale, it also makes people feel valued for the work that they do. There are a lot of people in this organisation who go above and beyond to bring about positive outcomes for their clients.”
Asked what he loves most about his role, Kuzi said it was his team that gave him the drive to keep striving for excellence.
“I love working with my team and working in the Kimberley has been such an incredible, eye-opening experience,” he said.
