Former Firefighter Receives Surprise Visit at Maddington

It all began when Doug, a valued member of the MercyCare family, shared his illustrious 30-year career as a firefighter.

To help him settle in, Sherry, our Wellbeing Coordinator at MercyCare Maddington, contacted Maddington Fire Station. After sending out emails and leaving her contact information, she received a call from Peter.

As it turns out, Doug trained Peter many years ago and was overjoyed at the opportunity to reconnect. With gratitude for the initiative taken, Peter rallied the Maddington crew for a surprise visit the next day.

The Maddington crew arrived with their trucks and stayed for over an hour, bringing joy and nostalgia to Doug and the other residents.

The visit was filled with laughter, tears, and cherished memories, leaving a lasting impact on everyone present.

Peter has since become a regular visitor, creating a special bond with Doug and the other residents. He has taken Doug out to meet with their old crew and has plans to bring him into the station for a day soon.

The connection between Doug and Peter, reminiscent of their time together as firefighters, serves as a reminder of the enduring bonds forged through shared experiences.

This reunion has brought immense joy to Doug and his family. Highlighting the power of friendship and the importance of maintaining connections, no matter the distance or passage of time.
