Joondalup named ‘Home of the Year’ at MercyCare Excellence Awards

The team were given the special recognition for their passion and dedication at the awards gala event in September, which Joondalup Service Manager Karen Lyon said was “a surprise and an honour”.

“Staff have been really surprised by this award as they feel they are just doing their job but this award proves that they go above and beyond,” Karen said.

This award means so much to us all. To be recognised for our achievements and what we have accomplished is very rewarding for everyone.”

Having seen firsthand how passionate and dedicated her team are, Karen said the award was well-deserved.

“My team are motivated and dedicated to enable our residents to live their best lives,” she said.

“It made me feel so proud that my Home was recognised.”

Karen added that her team comprised passionate, dedicated people who genuinely wanted to make a difference in residents’ lives.

“They all do their role with compassion and they demonstrate respect for each other as well as our residents,” she said.

“They understand and recognise the individual needs of each resident that then enables them to provide that quality person centred approach.”

But it’s not just Karen that sings the praises of her staff – the families have also provided positive feedback on their loved ones’ experiences.

“When we have a new resident coming into the facility, all staff from different departments will begin to connect with the resident and their family,” Karen said.

“Recently, after a family member witnessed an interaction with her mum and a staff member, she said that she didn’t mind leaving her mum here as she was with people who clearly understood and cared about her.

“It is very heart-warming to receive such feedback.”
