Shining a light on Fostering

More than 5000 children are currently in care across Western Australia, and the need for foster carers to support these children is paramount.

The campaign can be seen across Perth billboards, buses, bus stops, shopping centres and online.

We believe each child has their own special light. Foster carers can help it shine by supporting a child to reach their potential. We are about building bright, hopeful and successful futures, together.

MercyCare’s fostering team work with, and for children and young people who are unable to live with their families and need care and support.

Our care team prioritises being there for foster carers every step of the way, from initial enquiry through to supporting carers and children during care. We want children and young people to reach their potential and to do this, their carers also need to feel supported.

MercyCare carers come in all shapes and sizes. They are ordinary people making an extraordinary difference – those willing to share their lives and home with a child or young person and committed to caring for children and providing them with a stable, supportive and nurturing home.

We believe finding attuned, compassionate, loving and flexible carers and families provides a strong, safe and secure base to see children reach their full potential.

MercyCare has a long history of providing fostering services extending back to 1990. We currently provide temporary (up to two years) and permanent care (usually two years to permanently living with foster carers) for children aged from birth to 17 years.

We also recognise foster caring requires care and support of a team. Our respite care program is for Foster Parents to have short breaks when required.
