Thornlie Early Learning Centre

Childcare near you

Inside our Thornlie Early Learning Centre we have created a special place where children feel comfortable to explore, learn and grow.

Community feel

Our focus is on ensuring children feel safe and secure so they can build positive relationships with their educators and their peers.

Families at our centre often say they feel like they’re part of an extended family.

While we have three separate rooms to provide different age groups their own space, we do a lot of mixed age play as the children enjoy sharing their experiences with one another, creating relationships and scaffolding each other’s learning.

Children are nurtured in a way that allows them to be their own little person.

Our educators are focused on meeting the unique needs of each child and family.

Many of them are long-term members of staff who have been part of the centre for many years, so they have positive connections in the local community and a good understanding of the area.

Play time

We believe children learn best through play and have developed our learning program around this idea.

Inside, our centre is spacious and light filled, providing a great base for fun activities and outside we have a large play space with a fort, sand pits and grassed areas.

Our pet chickens are a well-loved part of the centre and in the kindy room a fish tank keeps the bigger children amused in between creative play and activities.

Connection to nature

We take a collaborative approach to our vegetable gardens, with children helping to decide what plants to grow in different seasons.

Our little ones take a keen interest in the process of watching seeds sprout and grow into something edible.

As well as vegetables, our centre has a number of fruit trees and a herb garden, which provide us with produce that the children love helping to harvesting and use in our cooking activities.

Our gardens also create a great connection with our families. Children love being able to take fruit and vegies home and share their knowledge and stories of them with their loved ones.

Part of life’s journey

We have a relationship with MercyCare’s Kelmscott Residential Aged Care Centre, where our children often visit and interact with residents as part of intergenerational activities. Spending time with older Australians forms valuable bonds that many children do not have the opportunity to experience. Creating this intergenerational opportunity means children are exposed to the traditions and wisdoms of previous generations while developing respect and empathy the for older members of the community. By creating art, listening to stories and playing games, children have a new social circle at the Early Learning Centre to share ideas and learn new skills with.

For those keen on extra activities, we offer optional Happy Feet and Rock n Bop Tots classes.

Stay Connected

Parents at our centre love the peace of mind that comes with the app we use to communicate with them throughout the day. Xplor provides real time updates with photos about what your child is enjoying and discovering with their friends and educators.

Recognised for our quality service

The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority has rated our centre as Exceeding the National Quality Standard.

We offer flexible care arrangements, including half days and the option for a 10-hour session which means you can make the most out of your childcare subsidy across the week.

We are conveniently located just off Spencer Road, near Thornlie Train Station.

Having been at this centre since it opened in 2009, I’ve been able to see families grow, children move onto school and sometimes see them return with younger siblings several years later.

I feel lucky to be in the job I am in, as I love seeing children reach their milestones and develop relationships with their peers.

Being part of a tight-knit team also makes my job enjoyable. I love being able to work alongside other amazing educators and see us all learn from each other and inspire each other.

“Amazing centre with outstanding staff! My daughter has been here for three years and my son started as a new baby. The girls at MercyCare have supported me through every step of my children's development and I don't know what I would do without them!” - Kia

“My son attends this daycare- we felt safe from day one leaving him there too. Also when my son waved goodbye to me whilst in room for orientation day, then claps hands and smiles when leaving that day. You know it's right for both of you. The staff go above and beyond treating each child as individuals yet making sure there is passion with all they do.” - Jessie

“The staff are fabulous. Such nurturing and loving people with a passion for educating and childcare. My child loves attending MercyCare Thornlie.” -  Belinda
