Betty, Bill and Beverly
Hear to what one of our residents and their family have to say about their MercyCare experience.
“Betty has dementia. It was hopeless trying to look after her. We made a promise we would never put each other in a nursing home. But it’s just a promise you’ve got to break. Coming into MercyCare I felt comfortable straight away. They care for her and she loves them. I recommend MercyCare from day dot. It was like winning the lottery and I got first prize” – Bill (Betty’s husband)

Michele MurdochService Manager
I want people to see the person, not the age or diagnosis. That means treating each person as an individual, and this couldn’t be more important than in Residential Aged Care.
I have a passion for working with seniors and advocating for them. I believe the place I can have the most impact to do this is in Residential Aged Care.
At MercyCare’s Maddington Aged Care Home we are about creating a culture where we see the individual, treating each person with dignity and respect. We want to interact and engage with each resident from the time they get up to when they go to bed each night.
I’ve had a lifetime of working in the health industry but found my true passion over the past decade in aged care.
After working as a nurse at Royal Perth Hospital, my interest in emergency care saw me change career pathways to become a paramedic before moving into management roles. My move into aged care come through both community and residential aged care with my most recent position being one off the career bucket list – as a service manager for an aged care home in the remote community of Halls Creek.
I spent two years on the Council On The Ageing (COTA) board and can’t wait to continue advocating for seniors in my Service Manager role.

We’ve been part of the Maddington community for 10 years and our existing Residential Aged Care home sits on a very small part of the land we have there.
It’s time to expand opportunities for elderly people and people living with dementia, and especially people who have grown up in the Maddington area and want to stay close to home.
We have exciting plans for a new Residential Aged Care home... one connected by leafy courtyards, with shared recreational areas and a place for residents and their families to remain connected to the local community.
The plans need government approval and additional licences from the Federal Government. In October, the City of Gosnells gave the green light for development, and we hope the remaining requirements will be in place in time for us to start construction in late-2019, with first residents able to move in by late 2021.

“When my daughter tells people that I’m in care they say ‘Shame.’ But she says ‘No mum loves it. She’s having a ball.” – Ann
“When we were looking for a nursing home for my husband, as soon as we looked at this one we knew this was the place. We took him home every Sunday but he never once didn’t want to come back.” - Majorie
