At Home Care Frequently Asked Questions

Depending on the level of support you need, My Aged Care will allocate you either the low-level support of the Commonwealth Home Support Program, or the higher-level Home Care Package.

Many people use CHSP when they need low-level support. As their needs become more intensive or complex, requiring some case management assistance, they can be referred for a Home Care Package. With CHSP your funding is only for specific services, like cleaning or personal care, and can’t be transferred to a different type of service without a reassessment. With a Home Care Package, your funding is flexible and can be used on whichever services you require.

You can contact My Aged Care on myagedcare.gov.au or 1800 200 422. They will test your eligibility and arrange for an assessor to meet with you to determine your level of care.

If you have entry-level care needs, you’ll meet face to face with an assessor that will determine what services you require under funding from a Commonwealth Home Support Program.

If you have more complex care needs, you’ll meet with your local assessor who will determine what Home Care Package level is right for you.

Once you have been assessed and approved for a Home Care Package you can start looking for an approved home care provider.

Each level of Home Care Package provides a different subsidy amount depending on your required level of care.

Level 1 – Basic Care Needs. Valued at $8,927.90 per annum 

Level 2 – Low Level Care needs. Valued at $15,705.95 per annum 

Level 3 – Intermediate Care. Valued at $34,174.95 per annum 

Level 4 –High Level Care. Valued at $51,808.10 per annum
