Home for dinner with Heroes and Princesses

On Wednesday, 30th August, Early Learning Volunteers from the the Management team came together to create a magical evening for children staying at Ronald McDonald House in Nedlands.

The team volunteered as a part of the Home for Dinner program to cook and serve dinner to children and their families.

The program provides 50,000 home cooked meals for WA families staying at the Ronald McDonald house each year.

To make the experience more special, the management team transformed into heroes and Princesses for the night. The costumes were accompanied by themed craft activities for the families to enjoy.

Children were able to create their own hero or princess props and join in on the fun with a dress up corner.

“This experience was extremely humbling and heartwarming” said Courtney Barnard, Mission & Strategy Project Lead, Early Learning Service.

“Our staff dressed to impress for the occasion and have a very sombre evening with plenty of smiles and laughter from the children and families”.

MercyCare’s approach to Child Care

Our belief is that every child is unique. Our care and educational programs are influenced by truly listening to what matters to each child, their families, and their community.

Overwhelming research shows the best way to learn is through play. Our play-based approach, coupled with child-led learning, encourages a child’s individual interests and natural curiosity where learning thrives.

By volunteering their time to the Ronald McDonald house, the Early Learning team were able to provide a warm meal to fill the children’s belly and the opportunity to just play (and imagine themselves as a hero or princess).
