Mikaylah recognised for her excellence in customer care

Mikaylah, pictured above left with Executive Director of Early Learning Services Rosina Smith, recently received the Customer Care Excellence Award, which recognises a person who goes above and beyond their normal job to demonstrate excellent customer care, at MercyCare’s 2021 Staff Excellence Awards.

The annual awards provide an opportunity to recognise anyone who has gone above and beyond, embodies MercyCare’s values and provides a positive and quality experience for service users.

Mikaylah has been described by her colleagues as respectful and considerate, often going out of her way to make guests feel at home at the short stay accommodation.

“I feel appreciated for the work I do, and I feel like I am a valuable person to MercyCare,” Mikaylah said.

“I think it is important to recognise staff for their work and dedication so that they can feel appreciated, and it makes them more committed towards their work that they do for MercyCare.”

Mikaylah says being supported by a great team has helped her learn and grow in the job.

“Coming to work and having a great manager and people who are looking out for you makes it a great place work,” she said.

Having seen people from all walks of life come through the accommodation, Mikaylah says she has learnt to appreciate the little things in life.

“There have been times where people come in if they are going through hardship or have nowhere to stay, and it really makes me grateful for the things that I have in my life,” she said.

“Being able to help these people that are vulnerable makes me love what I’m doing at MercyCare, as I get to give back to the people in the community.”

Since working at MercyCare, Mikaylah has developed a deep compassion and understanding for others who are less fortunate.

“I have respect for each single person that approaches me inside and outside of working hours, I treat them with respect and make sure that they are known I hold respect for all guests staying here,” she said.
