3 March 2020

Identifying and assessing risk will build confidence and resilience in young children, MercyCare Early Learning Services Manager Rosina Smith told The West Australian today.

Ms Smith told The West Australian Newspaper research showed that children who spent more time outdoors had stronger immune systems, were more physically competent and more resilient to stress.

“For us there’s a big focus on children being able to identify and assess risk. Our children will learn to manage the risk, to take on challenges, and that builds confidence and resilience,” she said.

Ms Smith’s comments were part of on an article on “50 Things To Do By Age 5”, which included climbing trees, making mud pies and holding worms.
