The Achieving Together Excellence Award recognises an individual or team that demonstrates strong cohesion, connectivity and collaboration across MercyCare to deliver impactful outcomes, and according to Samira it’s been a long time coming.
MercyCare’s Multicultural Services team provide support to people from diverse backgrounds who have arrived in Australia as refugees or asylum seekers to settle successfully and lead meaningful lives filled with purpose.
This includes providing settlement services across multicultural family services, multicultural employment services and multicultural women services for asylum seekers, new migrants and refugees.
“It was a long-awaited recognition,” Samira said.
“The team always show respect to other cultures and value one another’s differences and opinions. They are a group of supportive, thoughtful people who always show kindness and appreciation for one another.
“As a team, they share equal responsibility — during busy times when someone appears overwhelmed, there is always someone to step in and lend a hand.”
Samira said winning the award was a timely reminder that their hard work together as a team does not go unnoticed.
“It’s motivational for staff and helps with team spirit, and it’s good to know that others can see the work that Multicultural Services do at MercyCare,” she said.
Samira said the team, which comprises staff from MercyCare’s Mirrabooka and Cannington offices, look forward to coming to work each day knowing that the work they do makes a real difference in peoples’ lives.
“Our clients influence and change us all the time – it is a privilege to work with so many different client groups and walk alongside them and see the positive change in the lives of many who seek support from Mercy Care,” she said.
“We can relate to our clients’ stories and that keeps us motivated.
“Without the clients we serve, we wouldn’t be here doing the incredible work we do.”
