DASSA Celebrates 10th Anniversary

On Thursday, 5 September Derby Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation (DASSA) celebrated a significant milestone, inviting members of the community, MercyCare staff, and representatives, as well as current guests to join in commemorating DASSA’s 10^th Anniversary.

The gates opened at 9 am, followed by the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at 10 am. MercyCare’s CEO, Anthony Smith, was in attendance and addressed the crowd with an opening speech. Both, Divina D’Anna, MLC, Member of Kimberley, and Kuzi Sakupwanya, General Manager of KASSA, spoke about DASSA and its impact on the community over the years.  

A light lunch as well as some entertainment kindly provided by Lucy Lemann accompanied the official proceedings and made for an enjoyable end to a very meaningful event.

MercyCare would like to congratulate Kuzi and the rest of the DASSA team for their hard work, passion, and determination in providing such a great accommodation service and making a positive difference in the community.

DASSA not only offers secure and affordable accommodation but also provides connections to Aboriginal Support Workers who can assist with organising appointments with services such as Money Management Services, Department of Child Protection, Centrelink, Winun Ngari Employment Services, Derby Aboriginal Health Service, Derby District High School and much more.

People are able to stay at DASSA for up to 28 days at a time and have access to two full meals per day, fresh sheets, towels, laundry facilities, guest Wi-Fi, as well as barbecue and gathering areas.
