It’s her gentle, caring approach that earned Jessica a Service Excellence Award at MercyCare’s 2022 Excellence Awards in September.
Nominated by her peers, the Service Excellence Award recognises an individual or team who delivers excellent services at the highest standard and makes a positive impact in the workplace/community.
Jessica said the award win came as a surprise.
“I knew that I had been nominated, but I did not expect to win the award for there were many worthy names on the nomination list,” she said.
“So when my name was called, I was surprised and incredibly happy at the same time.”
Jessica has been described by her colleagues as having a genuine interest and respect for different cultures of MercyCare’s clients and staff.
“Working at MercyCare’s Mirrabooka office, I have learnt a lot about working and assisting people from diverse cultural backgrounds,” Jessica said.
“It has helped me grow as a person. It requires a lot of patience and careful listening to communicate and assist the clients due to their life experiences and situations, especially sometimes with the additional issue of a language barrier. I am now more empathetic, and I do make sure to respect everyone around me.”
What she loves most about her job is helping others.
“I love assisting our clients and my work colleagues, even with a simple task or query,” she said,
“I feel satisfied and proud of myself, knowing that I am able to help and assist them in any way I can.”
While getting the award was an incredible honour, Jessica said that it was also great to see people across the organisation recognised for their efforts.
“I think it is especially important to recognise staff for our dedication and challenging work, for it gives us motivation and confidence to keep doing our best to fulfil our tasks and duties,” she said.
“Staff who are recognised will be a role model for others to follow.”
