Decades of Dedication with Rotary
With over 20 years of service through the Rotary Club of Perth City East, David has been a steadfast contributor to community-focused initiatives. He is especially known for his long-standing involvement in the Rotary Youth Exchange program, where he mentored young people and fostered cultural understanding through international exchange.
Now retired, David has brought his wealth of experience to MercyCare, where he volunteers with our Citizenship Award Program. His new role allows him to continue his passion for helping others—this time by supporting individuals preparing for the Australian Citizenship test.
Guiding New Citizens Through Challenges
Many participants in the program face significant hurdles, including language barriers and unfamiliarity with the test content. David helps guide them through key topics like Australian history, government structure, and the value of mateship. More importantly, he offers encouragement and reassurance throughout their journey.
“I don’t think I’d have passed the first time,” David admits with a smile—highlighting how critical guidance and support can be for new Australians.
Finding Fulfilment in Service
Though David is gradually stepping back from his Rotary Youth Exchange commitments, his drive to contribute remains strong.
“If you start a program and get to the end of it, you get a great sense of satisfaction,” he reflects—underscoring the personal rewards of volunteering.
