Sharing a Lifelong Passion
For the past 10 years, Lyn has been more than just a talented knitter and crocheter at MercyCare — she’s been a dedicated volunteer, sharing her skills, passion, and friendship with the community.
Lyn’s love for knitting and crocheting began when she was just five years old, learning the craft from her mother. After retiring, she found the perfect way to continue her passion by volunteering at MercyCare, where she connects with others through the art of yarn.
Each week, Lyn brings together a diverse group of women to create, connect, and support one another. Many of their projects benefit local charities, including Lyn’s current work on Spiderman and pizza blankets for Ronald McDonald House. In the past, the group has made blankets for elderly residents in the Pilbara and even knitted jumpers for rescued fairy penguins.
A Mentor and Source of Inspiration
What began as a space for women to practice English has blossomed into a close-knit community where members bond over shared experience and a love of crafting.
“We have great conversations and exchange ideas. It’s a valuable resource centre,” Lyn reflects.
Known as the ‘problem-solver,’ Lyn has become a mentor to many, always eager to share her knowledge. Whether it’s teaching left-handed crochet or guiding others in reading knitting patterns, Lyn’s warm, approachable nature makes her a valuable resource. She’s grown from being uncertain about her teaching abilities to becoming a confident, supportive teacher, leaving a lasting impact on her community through every stitch.
Lyn, thank you for your unwavering dedication and service to the MercyCare community.
